American animal shelters can learn from the work being done at the SPCA Puerto Vallarta. Their story is an amazing one, and I speak with Nicole Martin.

It’s quite a story as to how this place came to be. In 2007, Janice Chatterton, who is from San Francisco – and has no history in animal welfare –  began to help animals in Puerto Vallarta.  She opened SPCA Puerto Vallarta in 2012. Now, construction has begun on an addition to the sanctuary.

Not only has this facility saved animals others wouldn’t have the resources or make the effort to care for – they’re also shifting local culture.
