So why shouldn’t pet stores sell dogs or cats? John Goodwin is the senior director of the Stop Puppy Mills Campaign for the Humane Society of the United States. Illinois recently became the fifth state to ban sales of dogs/cats at pet stores, and that’s a very good thing if you cut off the puppy mill pipeline. Fact is that dogs sold at pet stores are far more likely to have behavioral and/or medical issues. Goodwin explains it’s not only the dogs sold at pet stores, it’s the dogs left behind at the mills.
