Dave Hoekstra talks with Easter Island expert and archaeologist Dr. Jo Anne Van Tilburg about the Easter Island Statue Project, dedicated to the study of the history and cultural significance of the island’s famous rock statues.  She discusses the pioneering archeological work on the island of Katherine Routeledge, Easter Island’s indigenous culture and expanding tourism industry, and her friendship with Jimmy Buffett- who recently made his first trip to the place the locals call Rapa Nui.

Joining in the conversation on Polynesian culture from an American point-of-view is artist David Krys, who talks about his Low Brow Aloha show, which gives an outlet to local Tiki artists and craftspeople.

Dave recaps his own trip to Easter Island with photos and more on his blog.
