With a Chicago Teachers Union strike now officially set to start Thursday, October 17th, know that you have options of places to send your kids when CPS is closed. Check out our list of classes, camps, and childcare options available during the strike.  

Official Chicago Public Schools Contingency Plan


  • Codeverse is programming a day full of game creation, robotics, interactive activities and more.
  • Full-day camp from 9:00am – 3:00pm with an early drop-off that begins at 8:00am and late pick-up that goes until 4:00pm with extended hours available for an additional cost.
  • Healthy snacks and lunches will be available.
  • Use code DCAMPMEM-75 to book camp for October 17th.

Beverly Arts Center

  • Full-day “We Have Your Back” strike camp from 8:30am – 4pm.
  • Early drop-off and extended care options.
  • Participants must be ages 5 – 12 years old.

Shedd Aquarium

  • Kids must be enrolled in Kindergarten to Fifth Grade at a Chicago Public School to participate.
  • Full-day camp from 8am to 3pm with an aftercare option from 3pm to 5pm.
  • Activities range from animal encounters, hands-on science activities and exploration of the Shedd Aquarium.

Kids Science Lab

  • Kids Science Labs offers students children (ages 4-12 yrs old) a day or week filled with fun hands-on science at our learning centers.
  • Camps available at the Roscoe Village and Lincoln Park locations.
  • Half-Day (9am-12pm) and Full Day (9am-3pm) programs are available.  Aftercare may be available until 5pm.

Green Explorers

  • Full-day camp runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm and half-day camp runs from 9:00am to 1:30pm. Before-Care available from 8:15am-9:00am and After-Care from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
  • Camp themes include: Nature in Chicago Medley, Oceans, and Extinction.
  • Day off camps are for ages 4-10.

Windy City Fieldhouse

  • Full-day supervised open gym from 9am – 3pm with a half-day option.
  • Open gym available for kids ages 5 – 12.

Kids Table

  • Full-day camp from 9am – 3pm with early drop-off (8:15am – 9am) and extended care (3pm – 5pm) options available at Wicker Park and Lakeview locations.
  • Kids will spend the day learning how to build their own pizzas and make spiced apple sundaes.
  • Camp is available for ages 4 – 10.

CIBC Fire Pitch

  • Chicago Fire Camps focus on individual skill development, for players of ALL abilities.
  • Full-day camp available from 9am – 4pm.
  • Camp is available for ages 6 – 14.

YMCA of Metro Chicago

  • Multiple YMCA locations will be open during the strike.
  • Space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis for ages 5 – 12.

Digital Adventures

  • Hosting technology camps covering topics including 3D modeling/printing, video game design, Minecraft Modding, Movie-making, Animation and Robotics.
  • The cost is $149/day from 9am-3pm. Camp will be held in our Lincoln Park studio.
  •  Grades 1st-8th.

Emerald City Theater

  • Perfect for young artists looking to sing and dance their way through the day while meeting new friends, playing games, and making crafts.
  •  Full-day camp from 9am – 3pm for ages 6-10
  • The camp will take place at the Athenaeum Theater

Facets Film Day Camp

  • Full-day camp from 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Perfect for kids ages 9–13 who want to learn about filmmaking and film review. $20 and $15 for Facets Members.
  • The camp includes a mid-morning snack and afternoon popcorn!

Windy City Ninja

  • Full-day and half-day options (Morning: 9am – Noon, Afternoon: 12:30pm – 3:30pm, Full-Day: 9am – 3:30pm)
  • The curriculum is focused on building strength, agility, self-confidence and continuous improvement – perfect for ninjas ages 5+

Salvation Army Metropolitan Division

Greater Chicago Food Depository

  • As part of the City Contingency Plan, the Food Depository will partner with libraries, parks and YMCA of Metro Chicago sites to provide food to Chicago youth during the anticipated teachers strike.
  • Ages 18 and under. Light meals (sandwiches and wraps), snacks and fruit, depending on location.

JCC Chicago

  • During the CPS Teachers Union strike, JCC Chicago’s School’s Out program will provide full-day back-up care for children. Dates will be added as needed.
  • Thursday 10/18: International Celebration, Friday 10/19: Star Wars Day. Kids will need to bring lunch and water. Pricing: 8:00am-4:00pm – $80, 4:00-6:00pm – $20. Open to all children grades K-5.
