There have been women in the United States Army since the Revolutionary War. As of the last census, women made up approximately 14 percent of the active duty Army, 23 percent of the Army Reserve, and 16 percent of the Army National Guard. In Part 1 of her series, “A Few Good Women,” WGN’s Andrea Darlas introduces you to two young women who joined the Army before they could even vote.

There are currently more than 21 million veterans in the US. Only 9 percent of those vets (just over 2 million vets) are women. WGN’s Andrea Darlas introduces you to two retired Naval officers who served nearly three decades ago in Part 2 of her series, “A Few Good Women.”

As we approach Veterans Day, WGN’s Andrea Darlas has been examining women in the military, the challenges they face and the triumphs they survive. In fact women represent only about 16 percent of the enlisted armed forces…and this year, the Marine Corps celebrates the 100th Anniversary of its first female soldier. This is part 3 of “A Few Good Women.”
