Clearing confusion on the Illinois tollways

John Williams

This May 23, 2014 photo shows trucks traveling through Center Point Intermodal Center outside Elwood, Ill., south of Joliet. The facility makes up one of the largest inland container ports in the country, where goods from as far away as Asia are plucked from trains and packed on trucks for the Midwest market. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration has proposed a 47-mile tollway in the area called the Illiana Expressway between Indiana and Illinois that would be placed at the top of the funding list under draft legislation backed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The Illinois Tollways have lacked representatives in its booths for over a year and drivers are navigating the technological space to pay for their tolls. Illinois Tollway Spokesperson Joelle McGinnis joins John Williams to answer questions from listeners about their transponders and more.
