The Blackhawks have been skating in full force while riding an eight-game winning streak. The team will now be tested with an injury keeping a key player off the ice. New kid on the block Erik Gustafsson has fit in nicely on the Hawks’ defense this season.
The 23-year-old Swede has logged seven assists and registered a +/- rating of +11 in 14 games with the Hawks this season.
Following Thursday’s morning skate in Montreal, Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville told the media Gustafsson is “day-to-day” with a lower-body injury that was lingering from Tuesday’s game Vs. the Predators.
The Chicago Sun Times’ Mark Lazerus reported Gustafsson left practice early to head to the dressing room.
Quenneville also announced another surprise alteration to Thursday’slineup Vs. the Canadiens. Forward Artem Anisimov, who was a surprise scratch due to an illness before Tuesday’s game and did not travel with the team to Montreal, will be flying in to play after all.
Montreal native Corey Crawford is slated to start in net for the Hawks.
The Original Six match up is can be heard on 720 WGN beginning at 6pm.
