CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – JUNE 03: A lifeguard keeps watch over beachgoers at North Avenue Beach on June 03, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois. Nationwide, municipalities have had difficulty filling lifeguard jobs. Part of the problem has been attributed to the cancelation of lifeguard training programs in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the great WGN-TV Meteorologist Tom Skilling takes a well-deserved vacation, Anna chats with the delightful WGN weather producer Bill Snyder who talks about Tom Skilling’s 43rd(!) anniversary with WGN, the passing of Tom’s beloved dog Maddie, the amount of severe weather warnings that were issued last week, the warmer than normal summer we’ve been having, and what we can expect (humidity!) for the Air & Water Show and the rest of the week.
