QB Jared Goff, California
Age: 21
Height: 6-4
Weight: 215

College Career: A three-year starter at Cal, Goff threw for 12,200 yards and 96 touchdowns in his college career before leaving a year early. His teams weren’t particularly good, and his protection was mostly poor, but he still managed to have plenty of success in Sonny Dykes’ fast-paced, spread offense.

Strengths: Has a great arm with the ability to drop in some absolutely unreal throws on deep balls. Plus-mechanics with a good feel for oncoming pass rushers. Willing to stay in the pocket and take a hit while delivering a pass. Very tough. Good height and athleticism for the position. Isn’t a burner, but has above-average mobility and can throw on the run.

Weaknesses: Needs to add some bulk to his frame, which he is in the process of doing. Has occasional lapses in judgement, either trusting his arm too much or failing to read a defender. Fumbles too much. Will need some time to adjust to the NFL, as almost of his college snaps were out of the shotgun in a spread offense.

Bears Outlook: Goff is good enough for the Bears to take at No. 11, even with Jay Cutler firmly entrenched as the starter. Wherever Goff ends up, he would really benefit from having two years to develop as a backup before taking over as the starter. That makes the Bears an intriguing match, but it seems doubtful that Goff will fall out of the Top 10. That said, crazier things have happened (see: Aaron Rodgers).
