Construction began today on what will be the third tallest building in Chicago. WGN Radio’s Ryan Burrow reports from the site of the soon to be built Vista Tower:

Right now a block long gap sits at the end of east Wacker. Bobcats and diggers clearing the flat space for what’s expected to be a three-year-long construction project, with the efforts of 2,500 workers.

When the building is completed, the wavy three-tiered glass structure will rise 95 stories above the ground, adding thousands of new hotel rooms and apartments to the city’s already busy cross-section of the river and lake. The three-tiered glass structures’ views are meant to impress – the Chicago River to the North, Lake Michigan to the East, and Millennium Park to the South.  The neighboring apartments will fall in the shadow to the Vista Tower upon its 2019 completion. The new building will house apartments and a hotel.
