Art Johnston, longtime LGBTQ and AIDS activist and co-owner of the Chicago bar Sidetrack, joins Justin to talk about the tragedy in Orlando, Florida and how the residents of Chicago’s gay and lesbian community have responded. Art talks about the politicizing of this tragedy, the history of attacks on the LGBTQ community, the significance of  bars and clubs and how they were always a safe place for the gay community, the history of Sidetrack and its importance to the neighborhood, how things have changed over the years, the obligation of the bar to continue being a safe place to meet, security concerns for the upcoming Gay Pride Parade and how Chicago is one of the best cities in the United States to be gay.
