Enjoy this run for as long as it lasts.

The Chicago Blackhawks are a part of “the original six”, those franchises that made up the start of the NHL.  Those teams, Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Boston, Chicago and the New York Rangers have won more than 60 Stanley Cups.  The Blackhawks have five – looking for six – and 3 in the last 6 years.

That’s better than good.  That’s a modern day dynasty.

Let’s be honest here.  We don’t exactly have title fatigue in Chicago.  In the last 30 years…
– the Bulls have 6
– the Blackhawks have 2
– the Bears have 1
– the White Sox have 1
– and the Cubs…well… you know… holding at 0

That’s 10 titles in 150 collective seasons.  So it is definitely time to stop and smell the zamboni.

We are in the midst of the best stretch of hockey this town has ever seen.  Enjoy your Toews and Kane.  Holler for Hossa.  Cheer for Crawford.  And go crazy for Duncan Keith and Hjalmarsson too.

From overtime game winning cannon blasts off the stick of Brent Seabrook to sniper snap shots from Patrick Sharp…this is  nothing but good times.

There’s still plenty of youth on this club even though they seem to have been around forever.  Every team in the league would love to have the speed and skill of Saad and the scrappiness of Shaw.  Then there’s the raw talent of Teravainen and a “farm system” that will keep future NHL GMs reaching for the Tums for years to come.

While we have come to expect this team to win we need to realize how lucky we are to have them.  Winning in professional sports is hard.  Consistent winning is a small miracle.

So from all of us at 720 WGN, thank you Blackhawks.  You make fall, winter and spring fun.
