In Memory of Don CrabbEvery Saturday night, Don Crabb would walk into this station, usually just before ten o'clock, sometimes only seconds before his three hour show. This alone was enough to drive a producer crazy. In our year working together, we got to know each other through our conversations on the air, and he took great delight in throwing me off-the-wall questions, just to see what my reaction would be. Needless to say, we became close friends. Like everyone, I marveled at his energy and enthusiasm for his work. When first assigned to produce for Don, I read his multi-page resume and was amazed by how prolific and accomplished he was in so many areas. From the books he authored, to his weekly column in the Chicago Sun-Times, to his television appearances, to his teaching at the University of Chicago, and of course, in his radio show, Don brought an enormous amount of intelligence and passion to his projects. He was an amazing teacher. I learned so much from him. He was my radio colleague, my mentor, and he was my friend. I will miss him terribly. I consider myself extremely privileged to have worked with Don and to have known him personally. Kristen Akers, |
