Throughout this spring, WGN's own Gigabyte Godzilla, Don Crabb, has been in the process of shooting interior and establishing shots at a Christian radio station in San Francisco overlooking the Bay. The film's working title is Connections. It began as a treatment written by Nora Ephron, screenwriter extrordinare, whose credits include: Heartburn, When Harry Met Sally..., Sleepless in Seattle, and You've Got Mail....yep that Nora Ephron.

This cinematic tour de force is being directed by Penny Marshall: sister of Garry, Laverne of "Laverne and Shirley", director of League of Their Own, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Awakenings, and co-star of those really funny K-Mart commercials with Rosie O'Donnell...yep, that Penny Marshall.

The story line runs something like this: a young boy, orphaned halfway through the film, is taken under the wing of an extemporaneous and slightly off-kilter computer guru who just happens (duh) to have his own talk radio show. The guru teaches the boy about hard drives, scsis and the ultimate operating system: life. Can you guess which character our very own Don Crabb portrays? Hint: he isn't the boy.

Don says that his acting skills have already been called upon by Ms. Marshall: "Penny asked me to cry during a scene and I started to panic: 'How do I just start crying?' 'Think of somethin' sad', she said in her impenetrable Brooklyn accent, 'Dis ain't brain surgery, kiddo.'"

The role of his lovely and fiercely talented producer is, as of yet, uncast. But H-wood buzz says that a young, blond and grievously unknown part-time radio producer at a major Chicago radio station has a lock on the role.

Principle photography starts in mid-October, with a shooting schedule of roughly six months, give or take....(read "development hell" here)

The film's final release date has not yet been determined....

Stay tuned.
