Q&A
Q: I’m at our wits
end. Our 1-1/2-year- old Doberman has begun losing her urine around the
house. This problem begun after she was spayed. She was tested for a bladder
infection, diabetes, etc., and we don’t know what to do. I’m certain it’s
not a housebreaking problem. What’s going on ? – T.L., Fort Lauderdale,
Fla.
A: It’s purely conjecture,
however, Chicago veterinarian Dr. Donna Solomon does point out that a
very small percentage of dogs suffer from incontinence after being spayed.
If this is the case, the problemt may be related to an estrogen hormonal
deficiency. Phenylpropanolamine (cq) is a drug that should help control
the dribbling by increasing the tone of the urethra. However, this is
assuming the problem isn’t housebreaking. You may be certain it’s not
a housebreaking problem, but we’re not as confident about that.
