Q&A
Q: My 9-year-old
cat sleeps with me and snores. Sometimes I have to put her out of the
bedroom. Is snoring common in cats? -- A.P., Cyberspace
A: Dr. Deborah Edwards,
a vet with a feline practice in Largo, Fla., is blessed with both a snoring
husband and a snoring cat. The husband is louder. No one has researched
exactly how common snoring is among cats but it sure does occur, most
often in overweight cats. If he’s sleeping on his back, Edwards will nudge
her husband or make a sudden loud noise to interrupt the snoring. She
does the same for her cat. Her husband grumbles, her cat meows, but the
snoring stops, at least for awhile.
In all seriousness,
Edwards warns, "If the cat is having difficulty breathing or is coughing
in conjunction with the snoring, see your vet."
