typically no holds barred style, that women remain the victims of male
oppression. Offering a countervailing critique will be Phyllis Schlafly

THE HOLOCAUST IN AMERICAN LIFE
What are the costs for Jews and all Americans of making the Holocaust
so central in American Life? Have American Jews, by making it the emblematic
Jewish experience, given Hitler a posthumous victory? Does the Holocaust
really teach useful lessons and sensitize us to atrocities? What is the
significance of Americans spending hundreds of millions of dollars for
museums recording a European crime when there is no museum of American
slavery? These challenging questions are raised and discussed by Peter
Novick in his new book, The Holocaust in American Life. Novick
is joined by Peter Fritzsche Professor of History at The University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and author of Germans into Nazi's.
A thought provoking and controversial dialogue tonight on Extension 720
