February is American Heart Health Month. Celebrate with tips for better heart health from NorthShore University HealthSystem doctors:
Dr. Jorge Saucedo, Head of Cardiology at NorthShore Top cardiologist, Jorge Felix Saucedo, MD, is NorthShore University HealthSystem’s Division Head of Cardiology. Dr. Saucedo comes to NorthShore from the University of Oklahoma Health and Sciences Center Division of Cardiology where he was Professor of Medicine and the Vice Chief of Clinical Affairs.
Dr. Saucedo has extensive experience in multi-center clinical research and investigator initiated studies in areas such as antithrombotic and antiplatelet therapy for patients with coronary artery disease and angiogenesis and regenerative medicine for patients with peripheral arterial disease.
He completed cardiology fellowships at the Instituto Nacional de Cardiologia in Mexico City, the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI, and at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He also completed his Master’s of Business Administration at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. He studied medicine at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.
Dr. Paul Pearson, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at NorthShore Paul J. Pearson, MD, PhD, is Chief of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at NorthShore University HealthSystem. A Chicago native, Dr. Pearson has practiced thoracic surgery at the Mayo Clinic as Chief Resident Associate and most recently at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., as an adult cardiac and thoracic surgeon.
Dr. Pearson’s work is widely published and he has won numerous awards and distinctions, including Mayo Clinic’s O.T. Clagett Travel Award for outstanding clinical and academic achievement. He earned first place for the Sampson Research Award and was named an Arthur Lee Wright Scholar by the Mayo Foundation and Mayo Medical School. Dr. Pearson has received many invitations to lecture throughout the country and the world, traveling as far as China to deliver speeches on thoracic surgery.
Dr. Pearson is a member and fellow of numerous medical associations, including the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Additionally, he developed two patented and trademarked surgical tools—the Pearson Procedure and Pearson Shunt, as well as the Pearson Laryngoscope.
