Carnival enthusiasts are invited to attend the first annual “Norwood Park Grease Lighting Carnival” sponsored by the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce and its partners, Norwood Park District Advisory Council and Taft High School Foundation; an event to celebrate 75years of excellence at Taft High School on August 21th, through August 24th, 2014.
The four-day “Grease” themed rock-n-roll carnival will attract hundreds of alumni, students and friends, along with thousands of neighborhood residents to help celebrate the school’s 75th anniversary and raise funds to restore the Taft Campus and for Norwood Park District improvements. We thank the generous sponsors of the Carnival; Taft High School Foundation, Union Pacific, Presence Resurrection Medical Center, Neighborhood Remodelers, Lisa Sanders from Dream Town Realty, Pat Riordan from Riordan Insurance, State Representative Michael McAuliffe, Norwood Crossing, and Superdawg drive-in and P&K Research.
The site of the carnival is on the Norwood Park District grounds on 5801 N. Natoma between Taft High School and the park on Hurlbut Street, from Natoma to Avondale. We encourage visitors to use public transportation and walk or bike to Norwood Park District. Hurlbut Street will be closed between Natoma and Northcott for trucks & classic cars. Classic car show starts on Saturday 8/23 and Sunday 8/24/14 with top prizes for the best themed Grease Lightning car and drivers. Generous sponsors of gift certificates include: Iron Horse Ale House, Superdawg Drive In, Norwood Auto Services, Trinity Pub, Ace Hardware and Pearl Gallery Two.

Windy City Amusement will provide carnival rides for teens, tweens and kids and hopefully ring back some of the nostalgia of “Grease.” There will be music, a beer garden, food trucks, classic cars and great entertainment. Windy City Carnival Co. will sell everything from cotton candy, funnel cakes and elephant ears to hot dogs, corn dogs, soft pretzels, caramel apples and lemonade. ATM machines will be available for both cash and ticket purchases.
The goal of the Taft High School Foundation is earmarked for restoration of Taft High School’s building and campus. The Norwood Park Advisory Council was created to manage ongoing park and field improvements.
