PETS OF WAR TO BENEFIT FROM BATTLE BUDDY BOWLING-CHICAGO AUG. 24
“It’s funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest, toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face.”
Bowling, a pizza party, a wide buffet of raffle prizes and celebrity guests are on tap for “Battle Buddy Bowling-Chicago,” to be held Aug. 24 at Fox Bowl in Wheaton, Ill.
“Battle Buddy Bowling-Chicago” raises money for The Puppy Rescue Mission (www.puppyrescuemission.com), a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity that helps our troops bring to the United States the pets they have bonded with while serving in war zones such as Afghanistan. These animals help our military personnel cope with the trials and emotional aftermath of war as well as accompany and protect them on patrols and at the base.
“Battle Buddy Bowling-Chicago” features an afternoon of “no-tap” bowling (knock down nine pins on the first ball in a frame, get credit for a strike) and video analysis and instruction by professional bowler and Gold-Level coach Bill Spigner, a member of six bowling Halls of Fame, including the U.S. Bowling Congress and Illinois State halls.
In addition, baseball legend and former White Sox broadcaster Jimmy Piersall will be stopping by during the afternoon with his wife, Jan, to talk a little baseball with guests and pose for photos. Jimmy was profiled recently in the Chicago Tribune (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/ct-spt-0804-jimmy-piersall-sullivan-20140804-story.html#page=1), and he and his wife have shared their lives with dogs for many years.
The ticket price ($25/adults, $15/children 12 years and under) includes an all-you-can eat pizza party and participation in raffles with gifts ranging from autographed sports memorabilia to baskets of beauty products, grilling accessories and pet and children’s toys; gift certificates to some of Chicago’s standout restaurants like Harry Caray’s and the Signature Room; and more. Prizes will also be awarded for the highest single-game no-tap scores of the day. Check-in is at 1:30 p.m.; bowling begins at 2.
Tickets can be purchased online via Facebook’s “Battle Buddy Bowling-Chicago” page (https://www.facebook.com/events/642256912518230/?ref=br_tf ) or at the door. Fox Bowl is located at 1101 Butterfield Rd., Wheaton. Call 773-625-0798 for additional information.
