As the leaves turn color, echoes of summer remain, much as the echoes of the violin resound in International Chamber Artists’ kickoff concert program, which showcases new violinist Ellen McSweeney. Join ICA musicians on Sunday, September 7 at 3:00 PM at the Belden Stratford Hotel located at 2300 Lincoln Park West, Chicago, IL 60614.
The program includes:
Edvard Grieg – String Quartet in G minor, Op. 27
George Crumb – Eleven Echoes of Autumn, 1965
Béla Bartók – Contrasts
You’ll have a second opportunity to hear the Violin Echoes concert on Sunday, September 14 at 4:00 PM at the St. Gregory the Great Church, Chicago, IL 60640.
Experience the tour de force of a stormy, intense, and brooding atmosphere in Edvard Grieg’s String Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, his only surviving string quartet. In turn, the chilling and diverse timbres of George Crumb’s Eleven Echoes of Autumn, 1965 might remind one of the transience of seasons. A similar timbral array at once delights and transfixes the ear in Béla Bartók’s Contrasts, commissioned by the inimitable jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman.
“We are thrilled to have the thoughtful and talented violinist Ellen McSweeney join us,” says Patrick Godon, ICA Founder and Artistic Director. “This Violin Echoes concert was designed with Ellen in mind, and with an intention to help transition from summer to fall – a beautiful season with colorful music. Come to this concert and welcome Ellen to ICA!”
ICA concerts are free with a suggested donation of $15.
