this nitwit complains about lax gun laws but admits that the laws on the books are not enforced to their full extent. so ask for stricter laws when they won't be enforced anyway?

Maybe it is time for a new police supt. since all he can do is ask for more laws when the current ones aren't being enforced… Time for this moron to go..

When are the idiots in our government going to admit what any person with half a working brain cell knows? Crimials do not obey gun laws , THEY"RE CRIMINALS ! McCarthy is a moron of the highest order!

Exactly David. This is just a cop out, no pun intended. I guess he is assuming these characters have foid cards and conceal carry permits. I guarantee you they have neither. Chicago has always been a very dangerous city and I'm sure the police have there hands full, but most big cities have the same problem and they deal with it. This is the same old anti-gun rhetoric, take away all the guns and there'll be no problem. Problem remains, these are CRIMINALS, they won't obey the laws. Leveling the playing field by allowing law abiding citizens to carry firearms to protect themselves is just common sense.

Since when did gang members buy their guns legally? All restrictions do is disarm those who would use guns to defend themselves.

They say gun crimes will decrease, but what they don't say or realise is that all other types of crimes will Increase because people no longer have the ability to defend themselves…
How do gun laws affect organised crime?
I will take a wild guess and say they don't, they get them through other than legal means…
    whats next?
banning knives and other sharp pointy things because someone was stabbed and killed with a sharp pointy thing?
next thing you know police shoot someone for holding a vegetable knife in their kitchen while they were preparing food… and watch them say" they were holding it in a threatening manner so i had no choice but to shoot them "

Gun laws do not do anything to bring down the crime rate. Maybe just the opposite. Criminals know they are safe to use guns since no one else can carry.

Illinois and Chicago have the most restrictive gun laws, AKA Gun Gun control at the current limits… So, follow the Police Chiefs suggestion. Make guns illegal in Chicago, or Cook County… and run the ultimate experiment… If the Chief is right… The numbers will show fewer death's by gun shot… if he is wrong… the numbers will show an exodus out of Cook county/Chicago… Business, wealth, and families with children first. Experiment ON.

I have to admit, if a whole lot of gun control laws don't work, a few more can't fail much worse…
