Dean Richards says the death of Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert (1942 – 2013) was the number 1 entertainment story of the year.

Ebert was the first film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism and wrote more than 20 books in addition to making countless friends and fans.

Richards shares this 1999 phone interview with Ebert before his papillary thyroid cancer diagnosis in 2002. Ebert died April 4, 2013 after an eleven year battle with cancer.
