NEWS ALERT: Bears, Packers Cancel Game, Merge for Playoffs
Football’s oldest rivalry took an unexpected twist today when officials from the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers jointly announced plans to cancel Sunday’s game so they could merge the two teams for the playoffs. “We realized neither team would have a chance against top playoff contenders like the Seahawks or Panthers,” said Packers General Manager Ted Thompson. “So this seemed liked a smart option.”
“Alshon Jeffery is absolutely giddy about having Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback,” said Bears Offensive Coordinator Aaron Kromer.
“And we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to piece together some kind of decent defense with our combined players,” added Chicago Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker.
The new team will likely be named “The Backers” or “Da Pears.” Members of both teams’ promotion departments are working diligently on a new mascot, a grizzly made of cheese.
