Buck dies after being trapped in ice on Des Plaines River

Firefighters pulled a young buck out of the Des Plaines River this morning in Willow Springs after it had somehow become trapped in the ice, but the animal did not survive, officials said.

The buck was taken to the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge, said Chief Jack Mancione of the Tri-State Fire District, which is the fire and EMS service provider for Willow Springs. According to the Animal Welfare League, the deer died.
