The Blackhawks shot puck after puck at Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith and then they shot some more.
The barrage of rubber at one of the NHL’s hottest goaltenders resulted in the Hawks’ fourth consecutive victory, this one a 5-4 thriller over the Coyotes in a shootout Thursday night at the United Center.
The Hawks fired 52 shots at Smith in regulation and overtime and Brandon Pirri made them count when the rookie center scored the winner in the shootout before a crowd of 21,762.
Pirri, Brandon Saad, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa scored in regulation to support goalie Corey Crawford. Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook each added two assists to help the Hawks improve to 13-2-4 on the season.
