A body recovered from Belmont Harbor this morning is a Loyola graduate student who has been missing since last weekend, the university says in a statement.

The body was spotted around 9 a.m. near 3500 N. Belmont Harbor Dr., according to police.

Authorities said earlier today that the body was tentatively identified as Christopher Evans, 25, who disappeared after leaving friends at a Lakeview bar early Sunday morning. His car was later found near Broadway and Cornelia Avenue, about a block from the harbor.

A missing person alert issued for Evans was cancelled shortly after the body was found, with police saying Evans was “no longer unaccounted for.” Officials said they were awaiting postive identification from the family.

But Loyola said in a statement posted on its website this afternoon that “it has been confirmed that the body of Christopher Evans has been found at Belmont Harbor in Chicago.”

Loyola spokeswoman Maeve Kiley said campus security was informed by Chicago police that the identity had been confirmed.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
