Brad Stevens leaves Butler for Celtics job

Brad Stevens is leaving Butler to succeed Doc Rivers as coach of the Boston Celtics, the school and the Celtics announced Wednesday.

“Our family is thrilled for the opportunity given to us by the leadership of the Boston Celtics, but it is emotional to leave a place that we have called home for the past 13 years,” Stevens, 36, said in a statement.

In six seasons at Butler, Stevens guided the Bulldogs to a 166-49 record that included six postseason trips and two consecutive trips to the NCAA title game.
