Police have recovered the body of a small child from the Des Plaines River near the Brookfield Zoo, and authorities believe it may be the body of 1-year-old boy who was allegedly murdered by his mother and her boyfriend last month in Maywood.

“They pulled a small body of a child that fits the size and description of Bryeon Hunter,”  Maywood Police Chief Tim Curry said.

Curry said that the remains were significantly decomposed and were being transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

He said the body was located by a volunteer who was kayaking in search of the child’s body when he saw it wedged against some tree branches in the water near 31st Street this afternoon.

Law enforcement officials have been searching the river for weeks after the boy’s mother and her boyfriend said they allegedly dumped the body in the river last month.
