Launch of National Gay & Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame

The LGBT community has been at the center of attention in the sports world since NBA player Jason Collins publicly came out. A new hall of fame – the National Gay & Lesbian Sports Hall of fame – was coincidentally announced in Chicago this week. Turi invites the nonprofit’s executive director, Bill Gubrud to talk about how it all started as well as possible partners and inductees.

Thanks for the great interview. I honestly believe all sports had gay athletes, but it was very taboo then and even now. However those barriers are becoming to fall like the walls of Jerico. I happen to have know Glenn Burke, and first met him when he was with the Dodgers. There's a great documentary called OUT,THE GLENN BURKE STORY. I recommend it for all jocks, gay or straight and even for people who do not like sports. He had to retire prematurley due to his homophobic managers…Tommy Lasorta and Billy Martin. Looking forward to the new Gay Hall of fame.
