Orland Township to Host
“Senior American Idol” Fundraiser
Orland Park, April 5, 2013- Orland Township is hosting its second major fundraiser for its scholarship foundation. “Senior American Idol”, presented by Supervisor Paul O’Grady and the Elected Officials, is scheduled for Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. It will be held at Georgios Banquets, 8800 W. 159th Street. All ages are welcome.
Tickets are still available for $25 and can be purchased at the Orland Township office, 14807 S. Ravinia Avenue, during business hours. All proceeds will benefit the scholarship foundation.
The evening will begin with a cocktail hour from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be promptly served at 5:30 p.m. The after- dinner singing competition will be hosted by HGTV Design Star’s Kevin Grace. Grace, a Chicago native, has been decorating retail spaces and homes for the past 20 years, using his distinct style and vision to make each project uniquely his own.
16 singers, selected after a February tryout held at the township, will perform before a panel of distinguished judges, including two American Idol contestants: Gina Glocksen, who finished in ninth place on Season 6, and Kyle Dee, a Season 11 competitor. Both American Idol alumnis will perform a song for the audience’s enjoyment.
The two singers will also share the judging panel with radio personality Rich Renik of WCCQ, talent agency owner Don Underwood and local entertainers Mr. and Mrs. “O”. Musical accompaniment for the singers will be provided by The Band Sundance.
In addition, the evening will include a red carpet for the singers and attendees to have their pictures taken, in true Hollywood fashion, and raffle and prize opportunities, with proceeds once again benefitting the Orland Township Scholarship Foundation.
“This will be a big night for the scholarship foundation and for our seniors, who I can’t commend enough for their bravery in trying out and performing for this occasion,” said O’Grady. “Our young scholars are going to benefit greatly, and those who join us for the evening will not be disappointed with the entertainment. It’s certainly going to be a night to remember.”
