The two robbers may have figured Quizphe’s Gifts and Sports in Logan Square was an easy mark. Enter with a gun, leave with cash.

But waiting for them inside was a family who had been robbed before and had had enough. Luis Quizphe, 62, fended off the gunman with a baseball bat after getting shot in the ankle. The gunman kept firing but kept missing Quizphe, though he may have hit his partner during the mayhem, caught on surveillance video.

The robbers tried to run out of the store but were trapped by the locked door. That’s when Quizphe’s brother-in-law started jabbing at the robbers with an extension rod, then grabbed a stool and whipped it at the gunman. The robbers were finally able to get out the door just as the brother-in-law was coming after them with a fire extinguisher. He threw it at them as they ran down the street.

Fact: If the owner had a gun, the immediate threat would have been eliminated AND if he was a good enough shot, the taxpayers would have saved a bundle on trials and imprisonment. Please disagree so you can show everyone how out of touch you are.
